Tanked Water Heaters

Tanked Water Heaters are the most common way to heat water here in Eastern Ontario. Tanked water heaters are the least expensive water heating option, and their simplicity leads to longer life and lower maintenance. The downside is that they are not as energy-efficient as their tankless counterparts. Toshack Service offers all types of residential and commercial water heaters including electric, natural gas, and propane. Whether it is a direct replacement, a change to a new type of tank, or a new build/application we have got you covered with years of experience and a variety of tank types!

tankless water

Tankless Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters offer a more efficient way to heat your water since they heat the water only as you demand it. These tankless units also offer endless amounts of hot water as they are not limited to the size of the storage tank. We recommend tankless units for any home that is supplied by municipal water, but not for homes in rural areas that do not have any in-house water treatment. They are becoming the go-to solution for new builds and are a great replacement option for homeowners concerned about energy efficiency.

water softners

Water Softeners

Water softeners are designed to remove hardness-causing minerals, primarily calcium and magnesium, from water. Hard water is not harmful to drink but it has many unpleasant and often costly side effects for your home. Hard water will cause scale buildup in pipes and appliances, which can clog appliances like your toilet, your shower head and faucets, your refrigerator water dispenser, and your dishwasher. Hard water also reduces the effectiveness of soaps and detergents, and cause skin and hair dryness.

Most water softeners use a process called ion exchange, where hard minerals are replaced with sodium or potassium ions. The system typically includes a resin tank and a brine tank, and it regenerates periodically by flushing the resin with a salt solution to recharge its softening capacity. These systema have been used for decades, and Toshack Service has decades of experience installing and servicing them. If you are considering installing a water softener, the first step is to have Toshack test a sample of your water to determine what level of hardness we are starting from. From there we can advise you on the best type of system to meet your home’s needs.

water filtration

Water Filtration

While water softeners are designed for the removal of hardness-causing minerals, water filtration systems are designed to remove a wide range of contaminants from water, including sediments, chlorine, bacteria, heavy metals, and organic compounds. These systems can range from simple carbon filters used in pitchers and faucet attachments to complex multi-stage systems installed under sinks or for whole-house use. Filtration methods vary and may include activated carbon, reverse osmosis, UV purification, and ceramic filters, each targeting specific impurities. Unlike softeners, filters do not alter the mineral content for hardness but focus on improving water taste, odor, and safety for consumption.

If you are concerned about the safety of your water, the Toshack Service team can help you select a system to meet your needs. Or if you have already selected the system you want, our licensed plumbers will ensure that it performs optimally by providing a quality professional installation!

Pipe Inspection Camera

pipe inspector

See the unseen! There can be a lot going on inside your pipes, like mineral or sludge build-up, penetration from tree roots, cracks or breaks, or simple corrosion that occurs over time. Often the best way to find the root cause (bad pun intended) of a plumbing problem is to have a look inside your pipes.

Toshack’s pipe inspection camera can do exactly that! Using a small waterproof camera on the end of a small flexible cable, a Toshack plumbing technician can inspect the inside of your pipes, locate any problems, and document the situation with video and pictures. Once you know the location and magnitude of the issue, Toshack can help you establish the most efficient path to correct it. Sometimes a picture truly is worth a thousand words!

Protection Plans Available

Toshack’s very own Guardian Plan helps protect you against unforeseen equipment breakdowns by providing year-round insurance that covers the labour charges and most parts, with only a few exceptions. With this great coverage, no deductible, and an included annual maintenance, we believe that Toshack’s Guadian Plan is the best heating and cooling equipment protection plan available!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my toilet always running?

A running toilet is usually due to a malfunctioning flapper, the rubber or plastic valve at the bottom of the tank. To check, open the toilet tank and adjust the float arm. If the water stops an inch below the overflow pipe and doesn’t fill up again, the flapper needs replacing.

To test for a toilet leak, add a few drops of food coloring into the toilet tank. After 15 minutes, check if the color in the toilet bowl has changed. A color change indicates a leak; no change means there’s no leak.

Remove white buildup by detaching the aerator from the faucet. Soak it in an acidic liquid, rinse, scrub under running water, and then reattach it. This is best done by a professional plumbing company which is better equipped to provide plumbing services.

Faucet leaks are typically caused by worn rubber washers, which degrade over time due to valve seat friction. Replacing these washers should fix the leak.

This issue often arises from a faulty diverter, which fails to block the faucet’s water when the shower is on, usually due to calcium or mineral deposits.

Low shower pressure can result from an inadequate plumbing system if other faucets are running simultaneously. If the issue persists with other faucets off, it might be due to leaks in pipes or patches.

Plumbing services encompass a range of repairs, including water heater repair, sewer repair, clogged drain repair, pipe repair, and faucet repair. Professional plumbing companies like Toshack are able to diagnose and repair plumbing problems quickly and efficiently so that you can get your systems running in no time.

Commercial plumbing focuses on the water and waste systems of businesses, while residential plumbing deals with those in residences or buildings. Toshack handles plumbing services for all types of buildings and situations to help resolve issues faster.

In an emergency, it’s crucial to have a plumber’s number readily available. Emergency plumbing services are typically available 24/7 to handle urgent situations like sewage overflows. Call Toshack at +1 613-342-9381 if you are experiencing an emergency.
